World’s Planned Offshore Wind Doubled in 2021, Led By China, UK, and U.S. https://www.windpowermonthly.com/article/1790586/global-offshore-wind-pipeline-doubles Global offshore wind pipeline doubles

Gail Rajgor, 22 June 2022 (Windpower Monthly)

“The global pipeline of offshore wind projects – operational, under construction, consented or planned – has almost doubled over the last year, from 429GW a year ago to 846GW today, according to the latest data from RenewableUK...Europe accounts for 350GW of the current pipeline, with 26GW fully operational, while the remaining 496GW is outside Europe… China is out front with a pipeline of 98GW, while the UK is a close second with 91GW - up from 55GW a year ago…The US in third place with 80GW, while Germany and Brazil round out the top five, with 57GW and 52GW…

For operational capacity, RenewableUK's report said that China, again, leads with 24.5GW, followed by the UK (10.5GW), Germany (7.7GW), The Netherlands (3GW) and Denmark (2.3GW)…[The UK’s 32GW also lead] the floating wind market…Sweden is second at 25GW, followed by Taiwan (21GW)…The UK also has the biggest operational floating capacity at 80MW, with two floating wind farms generating in Scottish waters…[In April,] 25 parties - including six European governments - agreed to work together to fast-track the deployment of offshore wind in European waters…” click here for more

EU Push For Energy Efficiency Takes The Main Stage

Why the IEA’s 7th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency is more relevant than ever; Highest ministerial presence in the history of the conference

May 26, 2022 (Danfoss via Zawya)

“…World leaders from government and industry will meet in the southern Denmark city of Sønderborg in early June for the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) 7th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency [with private sector support from global engineering firm Danfoss] at a time when energy efficiency solutions have never been more relevant, and needed…The focus of the conference will be to discuss how international ambition on energy efficiency can be translated into faster and stronger real-world progress. This comes at a particularly critical time, as governments ramp up ambitious plans to tackle the climate crisis and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while concurrently strengthening energy security…

…[The highest ministerial presence ever for this 7 June to 9 June conference will] focus on how international ambition and collaboration on energy efficiency [enabled by new technology] can provide much-needed progress towards carbon neutral and low carbon economies…[by halting] needless energy waste across industry, transport, construction and existing buildings…

…[I]f the world is to meet climate goals to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, energy efficiency measures must be called on to deliver a large, worldwide reduction in emissions…[Since 2007, the municipality of Sønderborg] has been collaborating with local companies with the aim to reduce emissions. In 2020, the municipality reached the important milestone of having reduced CO2 with more than half…[and] is on course to reach carbon neutrality in its energy systems by 2029, 20 years ahead of the rest of Denmark…” click here for more
