“…[T]he U.S. Department of Energy just said it would invest $16 million in 17 different projects that capture energy from waves and tides…[Advocates say marine and hydro-kinetic energy] is another arrow in the quiver of the nation’s energy portfolio…[that] increases reliability while also being environmentally friendly…[D]etractors say that the energy form is unproven and expensive, and that governments should not fund such risks…Ocean technologies are part of the larger debate over government’s role in helping to develop and commercialize promising technologies.
